The P&C (Parents & Citizens' Association) consists of parents/carers, teachers, and other interested parties who care about our childrens’ education. Our broad role is to:
- facilitate co-operation between parents and the school
- foster opportunities for parent participation in the school in a wide range of activities
- encourage parent input on issues including the curriculum and other education areas and to maintain an open dialogue with the school.
In short, the P&C provides parents/carers with a forum to make a real difference to the education outcomes for their children.
The P&C also provides the school with much needed additional resources, through our various fundraising activities.
P&C activities at the school include, but are not limited to:
- Canteen (on Wednesdays)
- Second-hand Uniform Shop
- Annual Market Day
- Annual Walkathon or Activathon
- Mother’s Day Sale
- Father’s Day Breakfast
- School Disco
- Parent/Carer Trivia Night
The opportunities for involvement through the P&C are endless and are limited only by the time that parents/carers can commit.
P&C Meetings are held on the third Monday of every month during term time, 6-8pm in the flexible learning area next to the school office. All parents/carers are welcome to attend.
The P&C at Waverley Public contributes to funding for much needed facilities, resources and equipment to improve the teaching and learning environment; taking part is a great way for parents and carers to get to know others and to be actively involved in the life of the school.
Fundraising is as successful as the amount of time and energy parents and carers are willing to commit. Volunteering on events and activities has a direct impact on the school and enhances the learning and physical environments.
The P&C encourages all parents and carers to be involved in some way in volunteering. There are ample options, ranging from co-ordinating an event, to helping at the BBQ on Markets day. If you are interested in getting involved in our fundraising activities, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
In the past 3 years, from 2016-18, the P&C has contributed significant funds, enabling the school to:
- purchase dozens of new books and a range of musical instruments and sports equipment
- purchase interactive whiteboards for classrooms
- purchase numerous iPads
- purchase robotics for all ages within the school
- install air-conditioning in the remaining upstairs classrooms
- install solar panels
- purchase flexible furniture for a refit of the school library
- Continue to invest in the WPS gardening program. A 'garden club' run by a parent was kicked off in 2016, so that students can learn about gardening and sustainability
In 2018, our major fundraising activities were the Canteen, Active-a-thon, Market, and Trivia Night. Other 2018 fundraisers included School Banking, our Mother’s Day Sale, Father’s Day Breakfast, and the Fluro Disco.
The P&C office bearers and members regularly discuss with the school executive the best ways to assign funds to improve our school. Ideas are generated either by the P&C or by the principal and teachers.
Waverley Markets are run by school parents for the benefit of the school community - all money raised contributes directly to improving Waverley Public School's resources and facilities.
The 2019 market will be held on Saturday 23rd March, the same day as the NSW State Election! This should ensure a great crowd for the day!
Our Markets feature a range of new and quality second-hand items. From quirky and unusual wares such as handmade jewellery, to new and vintage clothing, from games and activities for kids of all ages, to a vast range of CDs and books, plants including herbs grown by Waverley students, all at great prices. There is something for everyone.
The Markets are a great opportunity to pick up a bargain, savour great coffee and a bacon and egg roll or sausage sandwich from our BBQ stand, or a sweet treat from our ever-popular cake stall, featuring cakes, slices and biscuits whipped up by Waverley families.
For any Waverley parent/carer who would like to volunteer to help out leading up to or on the day, or if you have any general queries, you can contact our co-ordinator at email@example.com.
If you'd like to de-clutter your home, book a stall and sell items you no longer need. To enquire about booking a stall contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 0498-687-555.
Wednesday Wrap (Canteen)
The Wednesday Wrap is Waverley Public School's P&C-run canteen service that provides lunch and recess to the children and staff on Wednesdays throughout the year, and lunch on Fridays during the winter terms. It is entirely run by volunteers.
About our Canteen
Our canteen is an integral part of school life, promoting healthy eating habits. We provide nutritional foods and drinks at reasonable prices. All surplus funds are paid into the P&C general account, to provide facilities, resources and equipment for the benefit of students.
Our coordinators would love to see as many parents and carers volunteer in the canteen as possible. Many hands make light work and even helping out one morning a term makes a difference. Volunteering at the canteen is a great way to meet other parents and to do your bit to keep the canteen viable. Plus, kids enjoy seeing mum, dad or a grandparent helping out. If you’d like to get involved, please email email@example.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
