Our Classes

Kindergarten - Welcome to K Blue, K Green and K Orange

We have been very busy learning how to read and write. We are learning beginning sounds and letter names, sight words and how to write recounts this term. We love using our reading eggs program and playing fun maths games with concrete materials and on the Interactive Whiteboard. We have been busy reading, writing and counting numbers to 10. Kindergarten knows all the “Friends of Ten.”

In English we love our reading group rotations where we write our sight words on our small whiteboards, play sight word games, practise our handwriting and read in groups with our teachers.

We attend Italian lessons with Signorina Selby, who is teaching us many words and phrases in Italian. We attend music with Miss Rodgers and library where we borrow beautiful books from our library. We are also enjoying using the computers.

Every Wednesday we participate in physical fitness activities with other classes. We have lots of fun doing star jumps, running games and dance. We always remember to wear our House colours and running shoes.

We have had a very busy start to our first school year and really look forward to the many exciting programmes and activities ahead!

Stage One - Welcome to 1 Purple, 1 Red and 1/2 Yellow

We are a busy bunch in Stage 1, if we are not in our classroom, we are either with our Italian teacher Signorina Selby, or out playing sport. We love being active and love our fabulous playground.

In English, we rotate around activities in reading groups and borrow home readers each week to help us become confident, independent readers. This term, we are also learning all about nouns and verbs and how to write longer, more detailed recounts.

We have been working on our number skills in maths so that we can read, write and order numbers up to 100. We also practise counting forwards and backwards from any number up to 100. We participate in lots of engaging hands on activities and we love playing interactive maths games on the Smartboard.

In the afternoons we are usually doing fun things such as music, art, library, HSIE or science. Everyone loves playing the percussion instruments & singing & dancing!
We enjoy doing visual arts with our teachers and making our classroom bright and colourful! We follow the Waverley rules and expectations to make sure everyone feels happy and is able to learn all they can.

Friday mornings, we wear our sports uniform to school in our house colours. Sport is so much fun & we are getting better at throwing & catching. We have relays, races & games too so everyone feels excited when it’s time for sport!

Stage Two - Welcome to 3 Ruby and 3/4 Bronze

Our Stage 2 classes comprise of a Year 3 and a composite class made up of Year 3 and 4 students. Our classrooms are an ideal learning environment where every student is valued and encouraged to do their absolute best.

Literacy is a strong focus in our class and we have embraced the creative and critical thinking aspects of the English Syllabus. In writing, we have been learning to write to persuade and entertain and we are reading a variety of quality texts.

We follow the NSW Mathematics Syllabus for the Australian Curriculum and remain consistent with the rest of the school in regards to numeracy content. We develop a range of mental and written strategies to solve problems in all strands of mathematics.

Examples of our learning in HSIE and Science and Technology include investigating human exploration of space. In Creative Arts we study the works of famous artists and draw inspiration from them to experiment with a variety of media to express ourselves imaginatively to produce work of a high standard.

We love participating in sport, especially PSSA where some of us get to play against other schools. A highlight of the calendar this year will be the 2 night s/ 3 days excursion to the Great Aussie Bushcamp in Term 4. We are all very excited about the camp.

Stage Three - Welcome to 5/6 Silver and 5/6 Gold

Stage 3 students are highly motivated and love learning. They are constantly provided with opportunities that build upon their strengths and weaknesses in an environment that emphasises creativity, problem solving and collaboration.

They have been studying historical texts and a variety of informative and imaginative texts. Some texts contain many literary devices that we endeavour to incorporate into our own texts where appropriate.

Highlights of 2016 include: Dance Sport Challenge, Bathurst 3 day excursion, Showcase, Maths Olympiad and the Book Week character parade.

Our Stage Three students are considered the seniors of our school. They set a wonderful example for the junior grades. A highlight for our Year Six students is the Buddy system where seniors are buddied up with new Kindergarten students. They help our youngest students settle into school and guide them during their first year at school.

Everyday something wonderful happens in our Stage Three classes. The interactions and conduct of the students is something to behold!
